By Steve Hahn, Currents Editor This semester’s Currents
delves into one of the most important issues facing our university today. In their rush for academic
prestige, schools like Harvard and Princeton have all but abandoned their
Christian roots. Christina Littlefield’s feature story asks the question: Is
Pepperdine next? Lora Victorio presents the
student side of the issue in her report on the talk of revival that currently
permeates the campus, and a personal essay by Lissette Cartagena shows how one
student’s mission trip made an impact--not only in Uganda, but also much
closer to home. Ever seen one of those “Day
in the Life” picture books that shows things happening all over a given state
or country on a single day? Take a look at Kelly Feary’s photo essay, entitled
“Any Given School Day.” Anyone who’s been outside
their dorm room this fall has noticed that Campaign 2000 has caused an unusual
upswing in political awareness among students. Join Jennifer Muir as she looks
into what is behind this phenomenon and whether or not it will last. And do you ever wonder what
happens to all those alumni after graduation? We did, and Laurie Babinski’s
story will help you to find your favorite alumnus and get a better idea of where
your Pep degree may take you. Two new web-based campus
systems are making life easier for many Pepperdine students. But to some,
BulletinBoard and PepXpress are just two words that have capital letters in the
middle. Julieanne Leupold explains the difference and what they can do for you. Last year’s stellar season
for Pepperdine men’s basketball, which culminated in a first-round NCAA
tournament triumph over Indiana and Bobby Knight (his last game and last loss as
Indiana’s coach) was an achievement for first-year coach Jan van Breda Kolff.
Tony Ciniglio’s Q&A reveals the coach’s thoughts on the coming season,
his coaching philosophy and his future at Pepperdine.
