STAFF EDITORIAL: Enough parking, no patience

News flash to all who dare to drive to class: there is parking on campus for every student. No, the reavealing of a new parking structure with room for 700 cars is not happening, just yet.

STAFF EDITORIAL: Searching for a common ground

College is not only a place for education, but it is a place to meet new people, grow as individuals and share thoughts. However, Pepperdine is missing a core element, the necessary stage for such things to take place -- a student commons.

Taser this ... Colorado State University

When students at Colorado State University in Fort Collins opened the Sept. 24 issue of the Rocky Mountain Collegian, their student newspaper, an oversized and attention-grabbing headline shouted at them: "Taser this ... F*** BUSH."

STAFF EDITORIAL: Volunteerism must be a joint effort

Every year Pepperdine students merge together to conquer Step Forward Day, an event that provides hands-on assistance to non-profits, builds community on campus and gives students a taste of service. This mission-centered event is one of the highlights of the school year. But this year it seems like many students weren't satisfied with the taste they left with that day.

STAFF EDITORIAL: Price hike doesn't satiate appetites

It will be no surprise to returning Pepperdine students that food prices in the Waves Cafe and across campus increased significantly this semester.

STAFF EDITORIAL: Convo change only alters perceptions

What's in a name? Despite its simplicity, the Student Activities staff's decision to change the Wednesday morning program from Convocation to Chapel sends a different meaning to the Pepperdine community and potential students. The name "Chapel" clearly holds a more religious connotation than the word convocation. Is this what Pepperdine wants? Perhaps.

Ten things class of '07 will miss

This semester's Graphic said hello to the year 2007 with a breaking online news story on the Malibu fire, followed by the unusual-snow-in-Malibu story in the first issue. It feels like the spring semester began not too long ago, but the time has already come: this semester's Graphic staff has to say good-bye with this issue.

STAFF ED - Admin shuns GLEE, alienates club

Pepperdine prides itself on its campus diversity, supporting students from varied ethnic and economic backgrounds. The university, though it is affiliated with the Church of Christ, has welcomed students from varying religious and political backgrounds to campus, presumably to enrich campus life with fresh opinions and ideas.

PERSPECTIVES: STAFF ED - Dress code: Back to the drawing board

The policy for appropriate exercise attire is anything but appropriate. Its claim to protect students from infection is far-fetched and it contradicts the university's tradition of not having a dress code.

STAFF ED: New Congress must work together

Tuesday's election results certainly came as a surprise to many, in that while Democrats were sure to take back the House, the Senate would prove more difficult.

STAFF ED: New awards for Benton's mantle

In light of the Graphic's "Benton wins honor, loses award over scheduling" from the Nov. 2 issue, the Americanism Education League award, with which President Benton was supposed to be presented, will be missing from his mantle. Miscommunications and calendar conflicts may be to blame for the AEL's award retraction, but this mistake should not go unaddressed.

Staff Ed: Fix WaveNet's frustrating features

The homecoming of Willie the Wave brings to mind another return students have been seeking since September -- PepXpress. Though students are more than halfway through the semester, the daily disappointment by the University's new (and supposedly improved) Web portal, WaveNet, leaves something to be desired. As such, many students continue to use the defunct but still up and running PepXpress.

STAFF ED: Welcome back Willie the Wave

Making a successful comeback campaign is not an easy task. It's hard to pull off, especially if you've been out of the spotlight so long that you might as well be found on a milk carton with a "missing" sign above your head. Comebacks are difficult, but impossible? Not at all.

Attention students. This year welcomes a change on campus that is worthy of notice. No, wednesday convo has not been cancelled and parking spots have not been added -- this change has to do with student groups and activities.
