Trash worth keeping: Campus teams with recycling company

As the landfills in Southern California begin to reach their maximum capacity, recycling has become an important part in controlling the amount of waste buried into the ground. The closest landfill to Pepperdine is directly through Malibu Canyon near A.E.Wright Middle School and reached its capacity more than five years ago. Now non-recyclable materials must be hauled out to Sun Valley, Calif., for dumping.

Students train for Army service

Hours before the sun rises or the morning dew melts off the grass fields, two Pepperdine students among 92 cadets in training march across the UCLA campus with sweat dripping from their foreheads and a smile across their faces. For three mornings each week, students gather in the brisk morning hours to be a part of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC). As they march together in unison, sounding off a spirited "Bruins" for each completed command, these ROTC recruits are building their strength from the inside out.

L.A. trend offered at a fashionable discount

Authentic $25 Chuck Taylors, a bacon wrapped hot dog and faux Coach purses for less than it costs to fill up your gas tank are just part of what draws so many students to the junction of Santee Street and 12th Street in Downtown Los Angeles. The Santee Alley, a much talked about venue, is packed every weekend for many reasons. On any given Saturday, this section of downtown Los Angeles is sure to be packed with people, the air humming with vendors calling out their wares, and cars honking in an attempt to stop the constant pedestrian flow of the LA Fashion District? Aside from the insanely cheap prices, there is an added energy, a life that can never be felt in a mall.

As classes grow more intense and clubs start to demand more time, Pepperdine students find themselves struggling to fit physical activity into their busy schedules. Most people view exercise as a chore and end up putting it at the bottom of their to-do list. But you should move it to the top.
