Homecoming auditions sign-ups end today

With Homecoming less than a month away, the preparations for this year’s festivities have already begun, with a call to students and alumni being the first order of business.

Hosted by the Seaver Alumni office, Homecoming will be held Feb. 17 through Feb. 19 at various locations across the Malibu campus. Part of the Homecoming village is a gathering of students and alumni centered around a three-hour performance of talented students and alumni.

Auditions for this widely attended event have been extended into this week in order to allow more students to get the word and prepare after the three-day weekend.

Anyone who can sing, dance, play an instrument or has any other stage-worthy talent is invited to be a part of this homecoming tradition.

Auditions are being organized by Tara Lawrence, homecoming manager.

“The goal this year is to include clubs, organizations and students in the performance, rather than just Greek groups,” Lawrence said. “It’s a great way for students to showcase their talent in front of students and alumni.”

Several individuals have shown interest in performing, including current and former students.

The Hawaii Club is also on the perspective list of performers.

One student who plans on auditioning this week for a spot is sophomore Jessica Reimer. As a regular on the coffeehouse circuit, Reimer said she has the nervousness associated with performing in front of fellow students out of the way.

“I’ll be singing and playing my guitar for my audition,” Reimer said. “I’ll probably sing one original song, and then do a cover of another, probably ‘Breakaway’ by Kelly Clarkson.”

Students are also encouraged to register this year for homecoming online.

This new feature, including the “Who’s Coming” list, allows students and alumni to connect throughout the weekend by providing a program that highlights who will be where and when, to make meeting up with old friends an easier process.

Auditions will be held today and tomorrow throughout the day. Sign-ups for audition spots conclude today.

If any students are interested in performing, please contact Tara Lawrence in the Seaver Alumni Office at ext. 4348.
