The Pepperdine women's tennis team sent another team home with a loss Saturday as it beat Sacramento State 4-3.
Starting out the match on the right foot, the Waves earned the coveted doubles point with great ease winning all three matches. Throughout the season, the women have been mixing up the doubles teams, hoping to score the right combination.
“We have tried many different doubles teams,” said Head Coach Gualberto Escudero. “Every time you have a new person to play with, there is a learning curve. But it is especially crucial to get the doubles point.”
But the success of the overwhelming Pepperdine doubles win took its toll on the singles matches when two players, freshman Braverman and junior Koskawski, were forced to retire from their singles matches. Their forfeited defeat and Rice's loss 6-1, 6-1, brought Sacramento State up to winning three matches and tying the score against Pepperdine 3-3 in singles.
The doubles point broke the tie and earned Pepperdine a win 4-3.
“This was the way we like college matches to be,” Escudero said. “It was very exciting.”
The Waves swing back into action on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Pavilion fighting for another win against Long Beach State.
